Vanities draws upon a motif of a casket as a standing mirror. These works integrate physical and digital collage, photographing, stacking, and fragmenting pages from idealized home and lifestyle magazines to reconfigure new spaces. The hyper-curated pages of these magazines propose a fantasy of disembodiment, where the perfect home minimizes the body’s needs in an effort to maximize visual consumption and appetite. To me the casket and the mirror function as symbols of this disappearance made hyper-visible, where architecture operates in the liminal space between site and sight.
